THE LIBRARY 2015

FULL LIST EDITION!

I did a stupid thing this year. I went into my Goodreads account - the creme de la creme of all social media - and made my own maniacal shelving system of years since I'd been active on the site, adding dates in addition to the usual To-Read and Read and Novel and Non-Fic. And then I looked at the numbers - not bad in 2009, pretty abysmal in 2011 - and swore that in 2015, finally free of school (2009) and not depressed as hell in my parents' house (2011), I would read one hundred books.

ONE. HUNDRED. BOOKS.

THAT IS SO MANY BOOKS.

I did not read 100 books. I read a lot of books, but not 100. And 100 was a stupid number to land on and frankly sort of insane because I started making reading choices based on page count so I could jack up my number and reach that shiny triple-digit goal.

But I had such fun last year doing my reading rotisserie roundup rodeo that I couldn't not do it again.

So here, ordered only by my categorical shelving, are the not-quite-100-but-quite-a-lot-of books I started to read, attempted to read, and otherwise actually read in 2015. I can't link to all of them because that is just way too much linking.

WOOF. That is a lot, friends. Looking at the grand assortment, I definitely have some goals in mind for 2016 (not, thank god, related to sheer number of books consumed). Probably fewer graphic novels, though I am determined to finish The Sandman series. Definitely more writers of color and more classics, fewer hyped new releases and semi-trashy lady thrillers. And so much more nonfiction and story collections, starting with Best American and my small horde of true crime tomes.

Tune in tomorrow when I'll discuss my top picks, and then, on New Year's Day, a special diatribe on The Worst Book I (AND A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE) Read In 2015 With Some Begrudging Nods to Other Wastes of Paper and A Few Paragraphs on How I Am a Better Reader than I Used to Be.

GOODNIGHT!
